If you want to go further into headcanon land with me… Born back east to a mixed-race former slave (Anakin) and a French mother (nicely foreign Padme), Luke and Leia were separated and sent to (respectively) Nowhere, North Dakota and a wealthy hacienda in Mexico. Thanks to their wealth Leia’s adoptive parents are politically influential, as well as sympathetic to a rebellion (led by the tribes cast out west by the Indian Removal Act) fomenting against the U.S. Empire, a power controlled from the shadows by a now nearly-immortal and totally evil Andrew Jackson. Han, of course, would be a cowboy swindler/smuggler/adventurer in the Southwest, accompanied by a gigantic, fur-laden, semi-mute voyageur (Chewie). And the Death Star would be a flamethrowing airship that destroys half of Mexico .-.
